Three Ways to Pray: Thailand

9/26/2023

Thailand is a predominantly Buddhist country, with only a small percentage of the population being Christian. There are many unreached people groups in Thailand who have never heard the gospel message. According to the Joshua Project, the amount of UPGs in Thailand is as high as 74, which makes up 65% of the nation's population. As Christians, we have a responsibility to pray for these unreached people groups and ask God to make the way for the gospel to be shared with them. Here are three ways we can pray specifically for unreached people groups in Thailand:

1. Pray for open doors for evangelism
One of the biggest obstacles to sharing the gospel with unreached people groups is that many communities are closed off to outsiders and are resistant to outside influence. The Buddhist worldview is deeply rooted and often presents a challenging barrier to the natural spread of the gospel. Pray that God will open doors for evangelism and that the hearts of those who have never heard the message of Christ will be receptive to it. Ask God to provide opportunities for believers to share the gospel in culturally relevant and respectful ways.

2. Pray for more workers (Luke 10:2)
Another stat provided by the Joshua Project indicates that roughly 21,000 Americans live in Thailand, but that only 28% are evangelical Christians. South Korea and Great Britain also have large populations of expatriates living in Thailand, but share similarly low percentages of evangelical Christians within those populations. Ask God to send workers to Thailand, and to spark a passion of boldness in the hearts of Christians already living in the country. Also, ask God to raise up local Christian leaders who can effectively minister to their own people and share the gospel with unreached communities in Thailand. Pray for their safety and protection, as well as for strength and encouragement as they face challenges and opposition.

3. Pray for the Holy Spirit to move
Ultimately, it is only by the power of the Holy Spirit that hearts and minds can be transformed and turned towards Christ. Pray for the Holy Spirit to move in the hearts of those who have never heard the gospel, and for God's love to be made known to all people in Thailand. Pray that God would break down barriers and prepare the way for the gospel to be shared with those who have yet to hear it.

Praying for unreached people groups in Thailand is a powerful way to participate in God's mission to reach the nations. Through our prayers, we can ask for open doors, effective leaders, and the power of the Holy Spirit to transform hearts and minds.
