Three Ways to Pray: Turkey

Turkey, a nation that bridges Europe and Asia, holds a unique place in both history and modern geopolitics. Home to over 85 million people, the majority of whom are Muslim, Turkey has a rich Islamic heritage that permeates daily life and culture. Though it maintains a secular government, Islam remains deeply rooted in the hearts and identities of its people. Additionally, Turkey has become a refuge for millions fleeing conflict in Syria, Iraq, and other neighboring countries. This diverse and shifting population creates both challenges and opportunities for the spread of the Gospel. Here are three strategic ways Christians can pray for evangelism in Turkey:

1. Pray for Open Hearts and Divine Encounters
Ask God to soften hearts and prepare the soil for the Gospel. Pray that Turkish citizens and refugees alike would encounter Jesus through dreams, visions, and personal relationships. Many in the region have never heard a clear presentation of the Gospel—pray for divine moments where curiosity is stirred and Truth is revealed.

2. Pray for the Strength and Boldness of Believers
Christians in Turkey, especially converts from Islam, often face social pressure, isolation, and even persecution. Lift up local believers, missionaries, and church planters, asking the Lord to strengthen their faith, protect their families, and give them boldness to share Truth. While outspoken Christianity isn't explicitly banned in Turkey, the government has shown a track record of targeting and expelling Christians that are vocal about their faith. Pray for local leaders coming up through the political ranks to have an open mind regarding faith.

3. Pray for Refugee Outreach and Discipleship
Millions of refugees live within Turkey’s borders, many of whom come from countries where the Gospel is even less accessible. Pray for effective outreach ministries that meet both physical and spiritual needs. Ask for wisdom and resources for those discipling new believers from refugee backgrounds, that they may grow in faith and become ambassadors of Christ themselves.
