ENGLISH CLASSES

The classes don't just teach language - they create a space for understanding, growth, and connection.

Attending free English classes twice a week, students are paired with community volunteers who provide assistance as they navigate their lessons using specialized computer software. Overseen by a dedicated GoTEN staff member, these English classes serve a purpose beyond mere linguistic proficiency. They evolve into an organic meeting ground, where Christians and refugees converge, marking the genesis of enduring friendships and the establishment of cross-cultural bonds.

Volunteer as an English Encourager

GoTEN offers classes to refugees in Phoenix, AZ on Monday - Thursday. Classes are taught by computers and utilize volunteers from the community as personal coaches. Students attend class two days per week and learn at their own pace and advance to the next level when they are ready. No teaching experience is required for volunteers. During your 1.5 hour weekly volunteer time slot, you will work with 2-3 students to aid them through the computer program, record progress, and encourage the student with a smile.

The best first step to get involved is to come to our FirstServe experience where you will receive an orientation to GoTEN and English class.

If you have already attended a FirstServe or a Discovery Day, please complete the volunteer form below to help us get you connected in a class. Once we receive your information, one of our staff will be in touch to communicate the classes with the greatest need of encouragers and match that with your availability.
